Welcome to Get in the Ring, the Olympics for Startups!

What is Get in The Ring?

Get in the Ring is an international start-up competition, which first started in 2009 in the Netherlands. The main concept of the competition is to provide innovative start-ups with the unique opportunity to present their ideas on the international entrepreneurial stage and to help them expand their network of contacts with investors, ready to provide them with funds to develop their products and to assist them in finding new markets and potential clients. The competition is called “Get in The Ring” because start-ups present their ideas on a boxing ring in front of a jury.

Within only 5 years, Get in The Ring turned into an exceptionally successful concept according to the number of applicants. This number was 16 during the first edition, only on a national Dutch level. In 2014 the number of applicants reached 2000 from 65 countries from all over the world. The competition is traditionally organized in 3 rounds, starting with the acceptance of applications on a national level, from which the best are short-listed for the national final. The winner of the national final proceeds to a regional final including the winners from neighboring countries. Finally, the winners from all regional finals receive a priceless quota for the international final, which traditionally takes place in Rotterdam, but during the current edition it will be held in Colombia.

Get in The Ring in Bulgaria

In Bulgaria, the competition first started in 2013. The national final, organized by the Association of Bulgarian Leaders and Entrepreneurs (ABLE), gathered the best 6 Bulgarian start-ups. The winners were HutGrip and Jumpido. Later, during the International final in Rotterdam, on an official ceremony, ABLE received the prize for best national host and so obtained the right to organize the regional final for Eastern Europe in the next edition of Get In The Ring for 2014. During that year, there were more than 60 applications of which the best eight were short-listed for the national final. The national battle was won by a company that was developing innovative insoles for runners - Stepsss.

In November 2014, the regional final for Eastern Europe was again organized by ABLE. It gathered the best 12 start-ups in Eastern Europe coming from Macedonia, Serbia, Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria, Estonia, Hungary, Slovakia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Georgia and Lithuania. The winner and representative of the region for the international final in the Netherlands became the Moldovan start-up ChooChooBabyCarriers. During the international final in 2014, ABLE was officially awarded for being the best organizer, but this time among the hosts of all the regional finals.

All the participants should know that this year, the events will be bigger and better! There will be a mentorship program and a coaching day which will help the start-ups to get in the ring more prepared. There will be more information, so stay tuned.
